Your Vision to Reality
40+ years of Design Leadership & Craft, AI Enabled Speed

I'm Dan Sims. From Chrysler, Mitsubishi to P&G and Gillette and the future of electric mobility, I've spent four decades turning ideas into products people love. I sketch, model, and validate with judgment that only comes from years of hands-on craft — then use AI to move at a pace that craft alone never could. The result: I bridge the gap between ideas and execution, validating early concepts, aligning innovation with real market needs, and de-risking product decisions before they get expensive.

At Procter & Gamble International Operations, I built P&G's design capability for Asia from the ground up, helping fuel the region into one of P&G's strongest growth engines. That work taught me how to use Design Thinking to drive innovation at scale, and to simplify complex design problems into something a team can actually act on. I still lean on that same approach today: getting to the real user insight behind a "wicked" business problem, fast.
As Chief Creative Officer at Hydra Design Labs, I lead full automotive design programs through a fabrication studio built for the future of vehicles. My team and I have delivered transformative projects, including the THd Transformer RV for AC Futures, the Endurance EV Pickup for Lordstown Motors, and the concept for the Monarch EV Tractor. With 40+ years of OEM experience behind the work, Hydra is built for large-scale vehicle projects — click the logo to see more.
My work spans automotive, consumer products, and packaging — vehicles for OEMs and future mobility startups, personal care products for global brands, razor and grooming systems, and the packaging that carries them to shelf. That range is reflected in the recognition along the way: a Graphis Merit Award, two I.D.S.A. Industrial Design Excellence Gold Awards, and more than 40 design patents. Different categories, different constraints, same commitment to design that works as well as it looks.

Design work matters most when it reaches beyond the product itself. As a founding trustee of the Live Well Collaborative Singapore, I've helped guide projects aimed at real community health outcomes, not just market share. Through volunteer initiatives like Executives for the Extraordinary, I've had the chance to mentor and collaborate with others working toward the same goal: using design as a force for genuine, lasting change.

This is where four decades of experience meet your specific vision. I bring human-centered design, sharp strategic thinking, and the judgment to know which ideas are worth pursuing, paired with AI tools that let me move at a pace that matches your timeline, not the other way around. Let's imagine, craft, and deliver something real, together.
Work directly with me — no team of juniors, no handoffs. I bring 40+ years of experience designing production and concept cars, consumer products, and future mobility systems, applied one-on-one to your specific idea.

Unlock the Future of Product and Vehicle Design — Human Insight, Sharpened by AI
Great design starts with a need nobody's articulated yet. I spend my time finding that — through direct observation, conversations with real users, and 40+ years of pattern recognition for spotting the problem behind the problem. Then I use AI to move fast: rapid visualization, iteration, and storytelling, so the concepts in front of you reflect dozens of directions explored, not just the first one.

"Dan and I successfully developed an amazing EV Pickup Truck called Endurance. Dan led all the design and prototyping activities throughout the process, resulting in an amazing design. I would recommend Dan for any project in the future and promise that you will be thoroughly satisfied with the results."
"Dan is the most talented design leader I have ever worked with. He was the engine of change on billion-dollar brands, Gillette Mach3 and Shave Care. He managed to deliver, for the first time ever, qualified, winning design and outstanding results among our consumers — not only under significant timing pressure, but while managing major changes like brand strategy shifts and scope changes. On top of being an exceptional talent in his field, people love working with him for his passion, energy, and personal warmth."talent in his field, people LOVE to work with him due to his passion, energy and personal warmth."
"What makes Dan exceptional is his unique blend of creative vision and practical engineering knowledge. While many designers create aesthetically pleasing concepts, Dan consistently delivers designs that are both visually striking and manufacturable. This balanced approach has become fundamental to our design philosophy at Hydra. With 40+ years of experience at companies including Chrysler, Mitsubishi, and Hydra, Dan approaches every project with extraordinary depth. His expertise in human-centered design and Design Thinking methodology has been transformative for our client relationships."
"We collaborated with Dan on the razor handle design for our brand, Refreshments. Our goal was to develop an innovative design that was not only aesthetically pleasing, but also addressed the user need for easy grip, a smooth shave, and convenient storage. Dan did an excellent job throughout the entire process, from initial concept to final design. By working closely with our brand and sourcing teams, we successfully created one of the highest-rated razor handles available."
"Over the last 15 years, I have had many opportunities to work with Dan to design and develop various new products. He has always impressed me with his design thinking approach. Dan makes a great effort to have a deep understanding of consumers' pain points and problems. He is very creative in coming up with innovative solutions that give consumers the best usage experience. His designs are not only aesthetically pleasing, but also functionally superior."
"Dan was brilliant as the leader of the P&G Design Thinking network in Asia. He is creative and able to help others access their own creativity. He is adept at finding creative solutions to problems that drive alignment and action. Dan is a skilled designer too — able to craft beautiful designs as well as quick, low-resolution prototypes to move the thinking along."
Whether you're looking to explore possibilities, accelerate your project, or create a vision for the future, we're here to help.

1. Discovery: I start by understanding the landscape: a market assessment, an inspirational design target, and Design Thinking sessions to surface the real opportunity, not just the obvious one.
2. Define: Discovery becomes direction. I build a design brief, define the core problem, develop theme boards, form early concepts, define the user, and set target specifications, so everyone's aligned before real design work begins.
3. Design: This is where craft takes over: concept formation, ideation, hand sketching, low-resolution prototypes, and iteration, refining the idea against real constraints until it's genuinely ready.
4. Execute & Deliver: Once the design is locked in, I finalize color, material, and finish; complete CAD data; coordinate craftsmanship; and work directly with your manufacturer to make sure what gets built matches what we designed.
I believe in a collaborative, human-centric approach to consulting, working closely with our clients to develop solutions and consumer understanding so so meet their unmet needs and goals.

Whether you're refining an early idea or ready to bring a full concept to life, I bring the same thing to every project: four decades of design craft, sharpened by AI-enabled speed, and the judgment to know which ideas are worth pursuing. Let's imagine, craft, and deliver something real... together.

I offer design services across a few core areas:
Every project draws on whichever combination of these fits your specific goals — contact me to talk through what yours might need.and design consulting.
Cost varies based on the project's scope and requirements. The right work done up front — real discovery, not guesswork — saves you time and money over the course of development. I'm transparent about pricing from the start. Contact me for a free consultation to see if it's the right fit.
Every project starts with a conversation about your goals and vision, followed by a discovery phase and a clear design brief. From there, I develop multiple concepts for you to choose from and refine the direction you select. I build prototypes at whatever fidelity the decision requires, then deliver final files in the formats you need — and can work directly with your manufacturer to bring it to production.
Yes, for speed, not as a substitute for judgment. I use AI to explore more directions faster and move through iterations quickly. But the insight that matters, understanding what your users actually need, and the judgment to know which direction is right, still comes from four decades of hands-on design experience. AI accelerates the work. It doesn't replace the thinking.
When I joined Chrysler, I worked in a studio that became the International Studio. Diamond Star Motors, the JV between Chrysler and Mitsubishi, was just ramping up. One of my first automotive projects was assisting Roger Zrimec, the Senior Designer in the studio on the Plymouth Laser. Later, I was to take over the work on the Eagle Talon and later versions of the Laser. Mitsubishi Car Design Trails is a website featuring design stories of Mitsubishi Vehicles and recently added the development story of the Eclipse, written by Roger Zrimec, David O'Connell and Nobutaka Imada (later two from Mitsubishi) Click the sketch on the right to link to the article.
